The Federal Transit Administration notified project officials on Thursday, Nov. 29, 2018, that it issued a Finding of No Significant Impact, or FONSI, for the East-West BRT Project based on review of the project's environmental assessment. The FONSI documents the FTA's conclusion that the project would not produce significant impacts to the surrounding environment. The project now moves into the final design and construction phases. The county anticipates that construction will begin in 2020, with the new transit service starting in spring 2021.

The environmental assessment included information about the preferred alternative for the project, its benefits and impacts, environmental resource analyses, and responses to public and agency comments. The National Environmental Policy Act of 1969 requires that all projects that would receive federal funds must complete an environmental review process.
